Patient Population

• Adults and geriatrics
• Case mix includes advanced GI procedures (EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS, flexible sigmoidoscopy)
• Average daily volume, admissions, and phone consults: variable
• Rounding on assigned patients

Facility & Support

• EMR: Epic
• Support staff: RNs in OR; 2 PAs/NPs

Privileges & Compliance

• Hospital privileges: Not required
• Temporary privileges: Available

Required Procedures

• Required: ERCP (diagnostic and therapeutic), Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
• Preferred: Upper GI endoscopy (with biopsy, foreign body removal, bleeder cautery/fulguration, variceal injection, PEG), esophageal dilation/manometry and interpretation, small bowel biopsy, flexible/rigid sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy (with biopsy and polypectomy), liver biopsy, insertion/management of Sengstaken-Blakemore tube

Qualifications

• Board status: Board Eligible required
• Fellowship: Required
• Licenses: None required (locum arrangement)
• Certifications: ACLS

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide continuous 24-hour gastroenterology call coverage
• Perform advanced GI procedures: EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS, flexible sigmoidoscopy
• Manage inpatient and outpatient GI consultations and procedures
• Round on assigned patients
• Respond to beeper calls within 20 minutes
