Join a supportive school-based team in Fort Collins/Larimer County, Colorado, as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant working under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. In this role you’ll provide individual and small-group interventions for students who have communication needs across articulation, language, fluency, voice, oral-motor development, auditory processing, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and related areas.
What you’ll do
- Deliver on-site speech-language therapy services during school hours, following treatment plans and clinical directions from the supervising SLP.
- Work with students one-on-one and in small groups in classrooms, therapy rooms, and other approved school settings.
- Address goals targeting articulation, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice, oral-motor skills, auditory processing, literacy-related language, and AAC use.
- Implement screening protocols and assist with assessments and data collection within your authorized scope of practice.
- Monitor and document student attendance, interventions, progress, and daily activities; maintain required records, service logs, and any Medicaid documentation.
- Maintain, organize, and clean therapy materials, equipment, and communication devices in line with infection-control and safety procedures.
- Communicate observations and progress to the supervising SLP and collaborate with the student’s educational team on IEP goals and follow-up strategies.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, trainings, and school events as directed.
- Support students’ toileting, mobility, or health-related needs when appropriately trained and assigned.
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and all district policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties consistent with the SLPA scope of practice as assigned.
Who we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders, Speech-Language Pathology, Speech Communication, or a closely related field.
- Completion of an SLPA program that meets applicable professional and state standards.
- Current SLPA authorization from the Colorado Department of Education.
- One to two years of related experience preferred (requirements may vary by assignment); equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered where permitted.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Knowledge of typical and disordered communication (articulation, language, fluency, voice, oral-motor, auditory processing) and familiarity with AAC systems and devices.
- Understanding of school-based special education services and experience working with students with disabilities.
- Strong oral and written communication, documentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow treatment plans and supervisory direction, manage multiple tasks, and protect student confidentiality.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, families, teachers, administrators, and other service providers; bilingual skills may be preferred or required for some assignments.
- Willingness to complete Crisis Prevention Institute and district-required special education training when directed.
- Successful completion of district-required fingerprinting and criminal background checks prior to starting.
