Job Description
Night shift position supporting the Cardiothoracic Surgery service in Rapid City, SD. Provides autonomous overnight care with physician and intensivist support for post-operative cardiac and thoracic surgery patients in the ICU and on the inpatient ward.
Schedule
- Night shift: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
- 168 shifts annually (14 shifts/month)
Clinical responsibilities
- Manage 3–6 critically ill post-operative cardiac patients in the ICU overnight.
- Care for 10–15 cardiothoracic surgery inpatients on the ward each night.
- Perform comprehensive assessments, ongoing monitoring, and timely interventions for changes in condition.
- Order and interpret labs, diagnostics, and imaging.
- Develop and implement treatment plans in coordination with surgeons and intensivists.
- Perform procedures and clinical interventions within scope of practice and hospital privileges.
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ensure accurate, timely electronic medical record documentation.
- Facilitate handoffs to the daytime care team.
Compensation & benefits
- $1,000 per shift (approx. $168,000 annually)

Minimum qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program
- Current or eligible South Dakota NP or PA licensure
- National certification (NP) or NCCPA (PA)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Prior ICU, critical care, cardiac, or acute care experience
Preferred qualifications
- Cardiothoracic surgery experience
- Critical care or CVICU background
- Experience managing post-operative cardiac surgery patients
