Locum Urgent Care APP (PA/NP) — Richmond, VA (12-hr Shifts, Epic, BLS, DEA)

We are hiring an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a locum urgent care in Richmond, VA. This role suits an autonomous advanced practice provider comfortable managing a broad range of acute and episodic conditions and performing common urgent care procedures.

Clinic schedule and logistics

• Clinics open daily, 8:00 AM–8:00 PM; shifts typically 12+ hours based on patient flow.
• Providers are expected to evaluate all patients who present during operating hours.
• No after-hours call required.
• Electronic medical record: Epic.
• Patient mix: episodic and urgent care presentations; higher-acuity patients will be stabilized and transferred or referred to an appropriate higher level of care, including the ED.

Core responsibilities and procedures
Perform and manage common urgent care interventions, including:

• Laceration repair (simple, intermediate, complex suturing or stapling) and wound care
• Incision and drainage with packing when indicated
• Foreign body removal and cerumen impaction extraction
• Minor burn treatment and skin lesion care
• Orthopedic evaluation, stabilization, splinting, casting, and joint reductions
• Diagnostic testing, point-of-care labs (rapid strep, flu, COVID-19, RSV, urinalysis, glucose), and interpretation
• X-ray and EKG interpretation
• Epistaxis management (anterior packing, chemical cautery)
• Airway support (nebulizer treatments, initial emergency stabilization)
• Recognize, stabilize, and coordinate transfer for patients needing higher-level care

Qualifications

• Board-certified PA or NP with an active Virginia license
• Current BLS certification required
• Active DEA registration
• Minimum 1 year clinical experience in emergency, urgent care, or primary care/emergency department settings
