Locum Urgent Care Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner — Glen Allen, VA

Locums opportunity in Glen Allen, VA for an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) in an urgent care setting. Must be comfortable working independently, managing a broad range of acute and episodic conditions, and performing common urgent care procedures.

Schedule and Setting

• Clinic hours: daily, 8:00 AM–8:00 PM
• Shift length: typically 12+ hours (varies with patient flow)
• Providers expected to see all patients who arrive while clinic is open
• No after-hours call
• EMR: Epic
• Patient acuity: episodic and urgent care; higher-acuity patients will be stabilized and referred or transferred to higher levels of care (including ED)

Clinical Duties and Procedures

• Laceration repair (simple, intermediate, complex suturing or stapling)
• Incision and drainage (including packing)
• Foreign body removal
• Minor burn care
• Skin lesion evaluation and care
• Orthopedic injury evaluation and stabilization, splinting and casting, joint reductions
• Diagnostic and point-of-care testing (rapid strep, flu, COVID-19, RSV, urinalysis, blood glucose)
• X-ray interpretation
• EKG interpretation
• Epistaxis management (anterior packing, chemical cautery with silver nitrate)
• Cerumen impaction removal
• Airway support (nebulizer administration, initial emergency stabilization)
• Recognize, stabilize, and arrange appropriate transfer for patients requiring higher-level care

Requirements

• Board certified PA or NP
• Active Virginia license
• Active DEA registration
• BLS certification
• Minimum 1 year clinical experience in emergency department, primary care, or urgent care settings
