Locum Urgent Care Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner — Midlothian, VA

We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a locum urgent care role in Midlothian, VA. The clinician will work independently to evaluate and manage a broad range of acute and episodic conditions and perform common urgent care procedures.

Schedule and Setting

• Clinic hours: 7 days/week, 8:00 AM–8:00 PM
• Shift length: up to 12+ hours depending on patient flow
• Providers are expected to see all patients who arrive during clinic hours
• No after-hours call
• EMR: Epic
• Patient acuity: episodic and urgent care; higher-acuity patients are stabilized and referred/transferred (including to ED) as needed

Key Responsibilities

• Triage, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and disposition urgent and episodic cases
• Perform and document common urgent care procedures and bedside testing
• Interpret imaging (plain X-ray) and EKGs; interpret point-of-care labs
• Stabilize patients requiring higher levels of care and arrange appropriate transfer
• Maintain accurate medical records in Epic and communicate results/next steps to patients

Procedures and Skills Required

• Wound management and laceration repair (simple, intermediate, complex suturing/stapling)
• Incision and drainage (I&D) with packing
• Foreign body removal
• Minor burn care and skin lesion management
• Orthopedic evaluation, splinting/casting, and joint reductions
• Point-of-care testing: rapid strep, influenza, COVID-19, RSV, urinalysis, blood glucose
• EKG evaluation and interpretation
• Epistaxis control (anterior packing, chemical cautery with silver nitrate)
• Cerumen removal
• Nebulizer administration and basic airway support/initial emergency stabilization

Minimum Qualifications

• Board certified PA or NP
• Active Virginia license
• Active DEA registration
• BLS certification (required)
• Minimum 1 year clinical experience in emergency department, urgent care, or primary care with exposure to acute care procedures

Physical/Operational Expectations

• Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced urgent care environment
• Flexibility for variable patient volumes and extended shifts
• Comfortable coordinating transfers to higher levels of care when necessary
