Primary Care Medical Director (Physician) - Lead Clinical Director, Amherst/Northampton; 70% Clinical, $250-300K

Location: Northampton and Amherst, MA

Position overview
Provide clinical leadership and oversight across primary care practices in Northampton and Amherst, MA. Maintain an active clinical practice (approximately 70% clinical, 30% administrative) while ensuring high-quality, safe, patient-centered care, supporting providers, optimizing operations, and driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain active clinical panel and deliver direct patient care (~70% time).
• Provide medical leadership, mentor and evaluate clinicians, and support professional development.
• Design, implement, and monitor clinical standards, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and oversee risk management and credentialing.
• Optimize care delivery through workflow, staffing model, and operational improvements.
• Lead population health and value-based care initiatives, including payer program participation.
• Use EHRs and data analytics to monitor performance, improve outcomes, and increase efficiency.
• Oversee patient experience efforts and service recovery processes.
• Serve as liaison between clinical staff, administration, and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• MD or DO with active Massachusetts medical license or willing to obtain one
• Board certified or eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
• 2-5 years of outpatient primary care experience
• Prior medical director, lead physician, or equivalent clinical leadership experience
• Experience with population health, payer programs, or practice transformation
• Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to mentor clinicians
• Training or experience in leadership, quality improvement, or informatics preferred
