Primary Care Medical Director (Physician)

Location: Northampton and Amherst, MA
Clinical/administrative split: 70% clinical primary care practice, 30% administrative/leadership

Position overview:
Provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for primary care practices in Northampton and Amherst. Ensure safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while supporting providers, optimizing workflows, and leading quality improvement and population-health initiatives.

Primary responsibilities:

• Maintain active clinical practice (70%) and dedicate administrative time (30%) to leadership duties
• Set and enforce clinical standards, quality metrics, and patient-safety practices
• Mentor, evaluate, and support primary care providers; lead performance improvement efforts
• Ensure regulatory compliance and oversee risk management processes
• Optimize care delivery through staffing models, workflow redesign, and operational efficiencies
• Lead population health, value-based care, and payer-program initiatives
• Use EHR and clinical data to monitor outcomes, drive improvements, and improve efficiency
• Improve patient experience and manage service recovery

Qualifications:

• MD or DO with active Massachusetts medical license or willingness to obtain
• Board certified or eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
• 2-5 years outpatient primary care experience
• Prior medical director, lead physician, or equivalent clinical leadership experience
• Experience with population health, payer programs, or practice transformation
• Training or experience in leadership, quality improvement, or clinical informatics
• Strong communication and team-building skills

Compensation & benefits:

• Salary: $250,000-$300,000 (DOE)
