Locums Emergency Medicine Physician - Freestanding ED (Independence, MO)

We’re seeking a Locums Emergency Medicine physician to staff a freestanding emergency department in Independence, Missouri. This is a supportive, lower-acuity environment with APP coverage - an excellent fit if you prefer collaborative teamwork, manageable patient volumes, and no post-shift call.

What to expect

• Setting: Freestanding Emergency Department in Independence, MO
• Shifts: Day and night shifts available (see schedule below)
• Call: No call requirement
• Patient volume: About 1.6 patients per hour across the department
• Admission rate: Roughly 5% or less

Schedule

• Day shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
• Night shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
• Coverage: Single physician on site with APP support

Clinical environment

• Facility: Freestanding ED (not a trauma center); affiliated main hospital is a Level II Trauma Center
• Department layout: Triage space with no formal treatment rooms on-site
• Patient acuity: Primarily low-acuity and urgent care presentations, with occasional higher-acuity walk-ins who may need stabilization and transfer

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat patients with a range of emergency and urgent medical conditions
• Perform standard ED procedures within your scope of practice
• Recognize, stabilize, and arrange transfer or escalation for higher-acuity patients
• Work closely with APPs, nursing, and support staff to keep patient flow efficient
• Complete accurate and timely medical documentation for each encounter

• Typical ED nursing and support staff
• Dedicated Advanced Practice Provider coverage during physician shifts

Qualifications

• Board certified in Emergency Medicine
• Active Missouri medical license or ability to obtain one
• Current DEA registration
• Required certifications: ACLS, ATLS, PALS, and BLS (as applicable)
