Locums Emergency Medicine Physician - High-Volume ED, Kansas City, MO

We’re looking for a Locums Emergency Medicine Physician to join an experienced clinical team at a busy Emergency Department in Kansas City, Missouri. This is a great fit for a clinician who thrives in a fast-paced setting, enjoys a diverse patient mix, and is comfortable managing high-acuity and complex cases with a wide range of emergency procedures.

Position highlights

• Flexible scheduling required: shifts include days, nights, and weekends.
• No additional on-call responsibilities.
• High-volume ED: average daily census ~106 patients.
• Annual admission rate approximately 34%.

Available shifts

• 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM
• 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
• 3:00 PM - 1:00 AM
• 8:00 PM - 6:00 AM

Clinical environment
You’ll care for patients across the spectrum of emergency medicine, including:

• High-acuity and critically ill patients
• Trauma, including penetrating injuries
• Complex medical emergencies
• Patients requiring transfers and specialty care

Practice features

• High procedural volume
• Significant transfer activity from surrounding facilities
• Occasional psychiatric evaluations conducted via telehealth

Core responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage patients presenting to the ED
• Perform standard emergency procedures and stabilize critically ill or injured patients
• Manage complex cases and coordinate transfers as needed
• Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, and ancillary teams
• Deliver timely, evidence-based care and maintain accurate clinical documentation

Support and resources

• Full ED support team and all standard emergency services available
• Note: pediatric coverage is not included

Qualifications

• Board certified in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM)
• Active Missouri medical license or ability to obtain licensure
• Current DEA registration
• Required certifications: ACLS, ATLS, PALS, and BLS
