Locum Emergency Medicine Physician - Port St. Lucie, FL (12-hr Shifts, AM/PM, Weekends)

We’re looking for a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Emergency Medicine physician to provide locum tenens coverage in Port St. Lucie, Florida. You’ll work 12-hour shifts in a busy community emergency department that treats both adults and children, alongside experienced advanced practice professionals in a collaborative, patient-focused environment.

Shift and scheduling

• 12-hour shifts (AM and PM coverage needed)
• Weekend coverage required
• No additional call responsibilities
• Average credentialing time: ~90 days

The department

• Annual ED volume: about 43,000 visits
• 35 private ED rooms and 24 inpatient beds
• Certified Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center
• Admission rate: 18%-24%
• EMR: Meditech with Dragon dictation
• Physician coverage: ~40 hours daily; APP coverage: ~22 hours daily

Patient population and case mix

• Adults and pediatrics cared for in a community ED setting
• Mostly Level 3-4 acuity, with occasional Level 2 emergencies
• Average physician patient volume: roughly 1.2-2.0 patients per hour

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide range of emergency and urgent conditions
• Provide comprehensive care to adult and pediatric patients and stabilize critically ill or injured patients
• Perform emergency procedures as indicated and coordinate care with specialists, nursing, and ancillary staff
• Maintain timely, accurate documentation in Meditech using Dragon dictation
• Follow departmental quality and patient safety standards

Qualifications

• Active Florida medical license required
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM)
• ABEM candidates only - no Internal Medicine or Family Medicine physicians
• Current ACLS and PALS certifications required
• Current DEA registration required
