Night-Shift Cardiothoracic Surgery NP/PA — Rapid City, SD (7pm7am)

Join a collaborative Cardiothoracic Surgery team in Rapid City, South Dakota, where you’ll work nights with significant autonomy while having strong physician support. This role focuses on post-operative care for cardiac and thoracic surgery patients across the ICU and inpatient wards.

Schedule

• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• 168 shifts annually (about 14 shifts per month) — predictable schedule that gives you two weeks off every month

What you’ll do

• Overnight management of 3–6 critically ill post-operative cardiac patients in the ICU
• Provide care for 10–15 cardiothoracic surgery inpatients on the ward each night
• Perform thorough assessments and continuous monitoring, responding promptly to changes in condition
• Order and interpret labs, imaging, and other diagnostics
• Develop and carry out treatment plans in collaboration with surgeons and intensivists
• Perform procedures and clinical interventions within your scope and hospital privileges
• Communicate clearly with nursing staff, physicians, and the multidisciplinary team
• Document accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
• Ensure smooth handoffs to the daytime team

Minimum requirements

• Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program
• Current or eligible South Dakota NP or PA licensure
• National NP certification or NCCPA certification for PAs
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Prior ICU, critical care, cardiac, or acute care experience

Preferred experience

• Cardiothoracic surgery background
• Critical care or CVICU experience
• Familiarity managing post-operative cardiac surgery patients
